Larisa (Alisa Frejndlikh) has a very beautiful appearance. She was born with a silver spoon but unfortunately, her family has fallen on hard times, and they now live a hand-to-mouth existence. Larisa has two sisters, both of whom are already married. Larisa is her mother’s last hope, and her mother wants her to marry a wealthy man so that they can live a prosperous life again. Larisa falls in love with a man named Baratov (Nikita Mikhalkov), while a postal clerk, Karandiev (Andrey Myagkov), is also fervently pursuing her.
