The story takes place in 1952, during a tense time in Vietnam with conflict and war on the brink. Aiden (Brendan Fraser) is a worker sent to Vietnam by an American aid organization. Witnessing various events in Vietnam, Aiden is full of enthusiasm and hopes to make a significant impact. He soon meets a man named Thomas (Michael Caine), a correspondent for The Times of London, who knows the local situation very well. An accidental encounter introduces Aiden to Thomas's Vietnamese mistress, Phuong (Do Hai Yen), and Aiden quickly becomes captivated by the mysterious aura she exudes. He falls uncontrollably in love with Phuong. Thus, a passionate yet precarious love triangle forms between Aiden, Thomas, and Phuong, and a murder case gradually pushes this relationship to the brink of collapse.
