One night, Zeus, the god of the sky, summons Poseidon, the god of the sea, claiming that his son has stolen the lightning bolt and threatens war if it is not returned quickly. In reality, Poseidon's son, Percy Jackson (Logan Lerman), is a college student who can hold his breath underwater for 7 minutes at 17 but shows no interest in his teacher's questions about Shakespeare. During a visit to the museum, he meets his centaur teacher, Mr. Brunner (Pierce Brosnan). However, the literature teacher transforms into a vengeful goddess, demanding to know the whereabouts of the lightning bolt. Fortunately, Mr. Brunner and his satyr friend arrive just in time to save him from danger. They take Percy to Camp Half-Blood to train him, where they introduce him to a warrior girl, Annabeth (Alexandra Daddario), for a duel. After losing, Percy is activated by touching the water, becoming a formidable warrior and embarking on a heroic journey to retrieve the lightning bolt.
