Jürgen Vogel plays Rainer Wengler, a teacher at a high school in Germany where a themed week on "state systems" is taking place. Since his favorite subject, "Anarchism," has been claimed by another teacher, he can only present the course on "Dictatorship." The carefree students view any course merely as a means to earn credits. They chat loudly during class and show little interest. Wengler creatively proposes a hypothetical experiment on "dictatorship." During this week-long experiment, Wengler is put in a position of absolute authority, and the students are required to obey him. From their initial playful attitudes, these young men and women gradually become immersed in the organization called "The Wave," realizing the importance of community and discipline, but they unknowingly slide into the abyss of "dictatorship" and "Nazism"… This film is based on true events and won the 2008 Outstanding Feature Film and Best Supporting Actor award (Frederick Lau) at the German Film Awards.
