Just past his 21st birthday, Da Fu (played by Wen Zhang) is a patient with autism. His father, Wang Xin Cheng (played by Jet Li), has raised him alone after the death of his wife. Now that Wang is suffering from liver cancer and feels that his time is limited, he still worries about how to secure Da Fu’s future, despite the unselfish help they receive from Aunt Chai (played by Zhu Yuanyuan), who runs a small shop downstairs. Wang even considers the idea of dying together with his son. He attempts to send Da Fu back to a special education school, but a series of rejections from schools and welfare institutions leave him feeling dejected. In Da Fu's world, water is his best friend; this autistic young man, who can swim like a dolphin, cannot leave the aquarium. At the aquarium, Da Fu meets the kind acrobat Ling Ling (played by Gwei Lun-Mei), while Wang is eager to teach Da Fu survival skills, as his time is running out…
