In August 1945, the Japanese invaders surrendered unconditionally. Aunt Yangjiao (played by Ding Yi) found an abandoned baby on her way back to the village. From the clothes wrapped around the baby, it appeared to be a Japanese child. After much hesitation, she took him home. The villagers and her family, filled with hatred towards the Japanese invaders, firmly opposed her adopting this enemy baby. However, the kind-hearted Aunt Yangjiao ultimately decided to keep him and named him Gouwa, raising him as her grandson. As Gouwa grew up, he became understanding and saw Aunt Yangjiao's mute son, Hulu (played by You Yong), as a father. Unfortunately, Hulu died in a road construction accident, and out of desperation, Gouwa was sent to Niu Jinchuan (played by Zhu Shibin), who had no children. Later, as Aunt Yangjiao grew older, to retrieve a dowry for her daughter Xiuxiu (played by Li Ting), she sent Gouwa to Qingliang Temple. Twenty years later, during a visit to Japan with the national Buddhist delegation, Master Mingjing (played by Pu Cunxin) arrived in Japan, and Oshima Yoshiko (played by Kurihara Kogane) recognized that this Master Mingjing was her son, who had been lost for decades...
