In August 1945, the Japanese invaders surrendered unconditionally. Aunt Yangjiao (played by Ding Yi) found an abandoned baby on her way back to the village. From the clothes wrapped around the baby, it appeared to be a Japanese child. After much hesitation, she took him home. The villagers and her family, filled with hatred towards the Japanese invaders, firmly opposed her adopting this enemy baby.
