After years of civil war, a Nepali communist finally packs his bags and returns to his remote hometown with an orphan he meets along the way to attend his recently deceased father's funeral. His biological brother has joined the opposing camp in the civil war, and the two, unable to coexist, agree to a temporary truce; meanwhile, his wife has given birth to a daughter with another man, and the little girl believes he is her real father. During the perilous journey of carrying the body down the mountain for cremation, the long-simmering conflicts between them finally explode. The director cleverly weaves the decade-long Nepalese civil war into a funeral. In this remote mountain village, patriarchy and the caste system remain deeply entrenched; despite having fought for modern universal values, the male protagonist, in order to fulfill his deceased father's funeral rites, must succumb to the village elders who adhere to ancient customs. Modernity and tradition, religion and secularism, and even family and kinship, as well as war and peace, will ultimately heal under the fluttering Nepali national flag.
