This film is a musical dance film that embodies the essence of 1970s jazz. It won the Palme d'Or at the 33rd Cannes Film Festival in 1980 and received three Academy Awards at the 52nd Oscars (1979) for Best Costume Design, Best Editing, and Best Original Score. ◇Plot Summary◇ As a musical theater fan, even if you're not very familiar with the name of Academy Award-winning director Bob Fosse, I bet you have heard of the Tony and Oscar-winning "Chicago" and "Cabaret." Fosse was the writer and director for both of these musical film adaptations, and another of his well-known works is "All That Jazz." (In fact, if you pay a little attention, you can spot many influences of "All That Jazz" in the choreography of "Chicago," and the very first number in "Chicago" is directly 'All That Jazz.') "All That Jazz" can be considered a semi-autobiographical film of Bob Fosse. The protagonist is a Broadway veteran director named Joe Gideon, who is imaginative, unconventional, and extremely talented. However, because he has not established great ideals or a correct worldview, his work pressure and emotional indulgence lead him to despair, and his health deteriorates. In the end, amidst the songs and dances of his creations, Gideon hums 'Bye Bye Love' on the operating table as he embarks on an irreversible path. Life is so unpredictable. Mr. Gideon can create box office miracles and attract various women, but like us, he often feels helpless in the face of spiritual emptiness and physical frailty. Having like-minded friends to chat with, reading and writing favored articles, enjoying beautiful musicals, maintaining a humorous spirit to smile often, and breathing air free of SARS virus—how long do you think we’ll still be granted this simple happiness? Classic Songs: "On Broadway," "After You've Gone," "Everything Old Is New Again," "Bye Bye Love."
