Alphonsine (played by Greta Garbo) was originally a poor girl born in a remote village, sold to a merchant by her greedy father. After a tumultuous journey, she arrived in the bustling metropolis of Paris. With her enchanting beauty and exceptional intelligence, Alphonsine quickly became a socialite in the Parisian upper class, living amidst the dazzling nightlife and was bestowed with the title of "Lady of the Camellias." This decadent lifestyle rapidly consumed her health, leading to a lung disease. A kind duke, seeing the resemblance to his recently deceased daughter, extended a helping hand to her. One day by chance, Alphonsine met the writer Alexandre Dumas fils (played by Robert Taylor) and fell passionately in love. However, the vast differences in their experiences and statuses doomed their relationship from the start.
