The exceptionally talented and untamed Soviet ballet superstar, Leryev, is the confident, desirous, and ambitious White Raven, freely navigating between genders. The film intersperses his experiences from his chaotic arrival on the Trans-Siberian Railway to his defection to the West during a performance in Paris; under the mentorship of Pushkin, he becomes the world's leading male ballet star.
