Born into a martial arts family, the leader of the White Lotus Sect, Wang Cong'er, is brave and resourceful, with exceptional skills. She is discussing the uprising with the chief steward Wang Qing and strategist Liu Sanhuai when suddenly surrounded by the Qing army, and Wang jumps off a cliff to escape. The Qing government posts a bounty across the city to capture Wang. Acting as itinerant performers with her father, Cong'er leaves the city but is secretly followed by Qing soldiers. They realize there is a traitor among them, who turns out to be Liu Sanhuai. Knowing that his time has come, Liu hangs himself in shame. Wang Cong'er kills the pursuing Qing soldiers and raises the banner to revolt again
