In a corner of the bustling, hurried city, ordinary woman Teruko (played by Sakura Ando) sleeps all day. She has been in a relationship with Iwanaga (played by Arata Iura), whom she met in the workplace, for a long time. Iwanaga is a married man; his wife has been in a vegetative state for years, and the gentle nature of her relatives makes it difficult for him to leave. Yet, his yearning for love and freedom has kept him in this unresolvable affair with Teruko for years. Teruko, who has a very monotonous social circle, once had a friend named Shiori (played by Mizuki Tanimura). After graduating, Shiori frequently stayed at friends' homes and later took on a strange job of accompanying others while they slept, only to ultimately die by suicide for reasons unknown, which left Teruko perplexed. Guilt, awkwardness, desire, and exhaustion force Teruko and Iwanaga to maintain their current relationship, and unknowingly, she becomes lost in her sleep... This film is adapted from the short story of the same name published by Banana Yoshimoto in 1989. It is part of the "Sleep Trilogy," along with "Yasumi no Yoru" and "Ichi no Taiken."
