This film follows the legacy of the Shanxi Tianchengyuan Bank, which was as rich as a nation during the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, and portrays the rise and fall of the "Chinese Wall Street" financial industry over a century. The story is woven through the memories of an elderly man in his twilight years: the head of Tianchengyuan, Lord Kang (played by Zhang Tie Lin), has four sons. The eldest is born deaf and mute, the second is impulsive and combative, becoming paralyzed after an accident, and the youngest descends into madness after his new wife is tragically killed in Tianjin, leaving only the third son (played by Aaron Kwok) to inherit the family business. However, Kang San harbors deep resentment toward his father because he took away his former lover (played by Hao Lei). Lord Kang hopes she can bear children for the Kang family to continue the lineage, but she resolutely refuses. Madam Kang has expressed her feelings to Kang San multiple times, but he remains respectful and does not dare to cross the boundaries. Seeing that Manager Dai of the Beijing branch is exceptionally talented, Lord Kang employs both kindness and intimidation to manipulate Manager Qiu (played by Ding Zhicheng), ensuring his loyalty to the young master. However, Kang San has his own plans... This film is adapted from Chen Yi's novel "Silver Valley."
