In a crowded Spanish bullring, the strong and robust bullfighter Antonio (played by Daniel Giménez Cacho) is engaged in a crucial match. In the stands, his beautiful pregnant wife Carmen (played by Inma Cuesta) anxiously observes everything unfolding before her. However, an accident occurs, and Antonio is severely injured by the bull. Shocked and traumatized, Carmen passes away after giving birth to a daughter. During his hospitalization, the calculating nurse Ines (played by Maribel Verdú) takes care of Antonio and later becomes the new wife of the disabled bullfighter.
