Nelly (played by Emmanuelle Béart) has been in a relationship with her boyfriend for many years, wholeheartedly wanting to walk into the marriage hall with him. However, her boyfriend is lazy and good-for-nothing. To support herself, Nelly has to hustle on the streets, relying on her meager income from odd jobs to support her family, which fills her with resentment. During an accidental encounter, Nelly meets a man named Arnaud (played by Michel Serrault), a respected judge, and they get along well.
