25-year-old César (played by Eduardo Noriega) inherits a fortune from his deceased parents, allowing him to live without worries. His frequent girlfriend changes give him a wild reputation among his friends, but recently, he has been pursued by a woman named Nuria. To escape from Nuria, César seeks help from his friend's girlfriend, Sofia (played by Penélope Cruz). The story shifts to a prison, where the disfigured César is detained on suspicion of murder, and doctor Antonio is attempting to coax him into revealing what happened. It turns out Nuria picked César up outside Sofia's house, and a car accident along the way left him disfigured... César wakes up from a dream and is on a date with Sofia in the park, but he soon realizes that the park date was just a beautiful dream. The doctors are powerless to help César with his appearance. Before long, in a daze, he signs an agreement, and the hospital's new equipment miraculously restores his looks. However, he discovers that Sofia is actually a fictional character of his creation, leaving César unable to distinguish between dreams and reality, and he decides to work with Antonio to uncover the truth... This film won multiple professional awards, including the Tokyo Governor's Award at the 1998 Tokyo Film Festival.
