Ramanujan (played by Dev Patel) was born into a very poor family in India. From a young age, he exhibited extraordinary mathematical talent, but due to his family's financial struggles, they were unable to provide him with a good educational environment. In 1904, Ramanujan managed to enroll in Government College, but he did not graduate due to severe academic struggles in some subjects. Afterward, he began to teach himself mathematics. In 1912, a paper he wrote titled "Some Properties of Bernoulli Numbers" was published, causing a stir in the mathematics community and bringing Ramanujan some recognition. With the help of a friend, Ramanujan wrote a letter of recommendation to the famous mathematician Hardy (played by Jeremy Irons), who recognized the potential of this promising young man and recommended him for further study at Cambridge University.
