On the occasion of the 50th birthday of Minister of Personnel Li Tingfu (played by Qian Miaohua), friends from all directions come to celebrate. Among them, the son of a friend, Wang Yulin (played by Chen Shaochun), is remarkable in appearance and exceptionally talented. Minister Li is very fond of him, and decides to marry his beloved daughter Li Xiuying (played by Jin Caifeng) to Yulin, with their wedding approaching. They make a perfect couple, admired by everyone, but one person is particularly upset—this is Xiuying's cousin Gu Wenyuan (played by Wei Fengjuan).
