Elliott Richardson (Brendan Fraser), a technical consultant at a computer company, is honest yet foolish. He is particularly bumbling when it comes to romance; despite being in love with his beautiful colleague Allison (Frances O'Connor), he is too shy to express his feelings. One night, after being encouraged by colleagues at a bar, Elliott finally musters the courage to propose to Allison, only to be rejected and ridiculed. At this moment, a mysterious and alluring woman in red (Elizabeth Hurley) appears before the distraught Elliott. It turns out that she is the embodiment of the devil, enticing Elliott to trade his soul for seven wishes. Wishing to marry Allison, Elliott quickly agrees to the devil's terms.
