An American guy from Cleveland, William Blake (played by Johnny Depp), heads west to make a living, intending to apply for an accounting job at a local factory. However, he misses the interview time and is thrown out. He also faces humiliation from the owner of the Dickinson Metalworks, even having a gun pointed at his head. When he arrives at a local tavern, a one-night stand occurs. Unexpectedly, the boyfriend of the woman he sleeps with bursts in, and a bullet passes through the woman's chest, embedding itself in William's chest. Instinctively, William kills the woman's boyfriend, steals his horse, and hastily flees. A dangerous and thrilling journey of escape begins...
