After their father's funeral, the three brothers haven't spoken to each other for a year. The eldest, Francis (Owen Wilson), has planned a meticulous trip to India and tells his brothers it's to find themselves and reconnect with each other. Although not keen on the trip, the middle brother Peter (Adrien Brody) and the youngest brother Jack (Jason Schwartzman), both trying to escape their miserable lives, agree to Francis's plan. The three brothers embark on a comical journey across India aboard a luxury train, collecting strange souvenirs along the way. After flirting with a female train attendant, letting go of a cobra they bought as a souvenir, and getting into a brawl on the train, they are unceremoniously thrown off the train by an exasperated conductor, along with all their luggage. Although everything is out of Francis's control, this unexpected turn of events brings the three brothers closer to the true purpose of their journey... This film was nominated for the main competition at the 64th Venice Film Festival.
