Eight-year-old Bruno (Asa Butterfield) moves from Berlin to the countryside with his family due to a transfer order from his Nazi officer father. Having lost his friends, Bruno soon becomes curious about the "farm" near his new home, where a group of people in "striped pajamas" are busy all day, and one of them serves Bruno's family, whom he describes as dirty and timid. The surrounding environment and Bruno's behavior worry his mother, but his Nazi father suppresses any questioning of the established policies within the household. Bruno secretly befriends a boy named Shmuel on the other side of the fence and often brings him food. In the tense family atmosphere and his sister's transition into adulthood, Shmuel is Bruno's only friend. One day, Bruno decides to go to the other side of the fence to meet Shmuel's father... The film is based on the novel of the same name by John Boyne and won the Audience Award at the 2008 Chicago International Film Festival.
