In 1940, Churchill established a new intelligence organization called the Special Operations Executive, abbreviated as SOE. One of its branches was responsible for overseeing operations in France. In 1944, to ensure the success of the Allied landing, this branch paid a heavy price. Louise (played by Sophie Marceau) has just lost her husband and is brought back to France by her brother to join the SOE. Her mission is to rescue a British geologist who has fallen into enemy hands—he holds the diagrams of the German fortifications in Normandy, nearly all the crucial information for the Allied landing. Alongside Louise are several other girls. Jeanne (played by Julie Depardieu), a prostitute sentenced to death for killing one of her clients, is promised amnesty from SOE if she completes her mission. Also joining are Suzy and Gaëlle, both with their own tragic pasts. As they contribute their intelligence and skills to aid the Allies, will they succeed in their mission, and can they all return safely?
