Michael (played by Bruce Willis) is a famous child psychologist who has a patient he could never cure, and as a result, he was shot. This boy later committed suicide. This left a significant psychological shadow on Michael. A year later, he finds another boy, Cole (played by Haley Joel Osment), who exhibits symptoms very similar to that patient, and patiently becomes his doctor. Cole is not easy to approach, but Michael gradually earns his trust and learns Cole's secret. It turns out that Cole has a sixth sense and can see ghosts. Although this is hard to believe, Michael helps Cole accept this fact after confirming the truth. But just when the problem seems to be resolved, Michael, guided by Cole, discovers an even more shocking secret...
