The American oil giant Connex is preparing to merge with a small company, Killen, which has obtained oil drilling rights in Kazakhstan, and is pressuring the young prince Nasir (played by Alexander Siddig) of a Gulf oil nation regarding these rights. Brian Woodman (played by Matt Damon), a researcher from a Swiss energy consulting company, attends a gathering hosted by Prince Nasir at his palace in Marbella, Spain, and later becomes Nasir's economic advisor. However, the U.S. government supports Nasir's incompetent and corrupt brother to succeed the throne, and sends CIA agent Bob (played by George Clooney) to Lebanon to carry out a plan to assassinate Prince Nasir. Meanwhile, a law firm in Washington assigns Bennett (played by Jeffrey Wright) to conduct a preliminary investigation into the Connex-Killen merger... This film won the Oscar, Golden Globe, and BAFTA for Best Supporting Actor (George Clooney), and was nominated for the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay and the Golden Globe for Best Film Score.
