In 1939, under Nazi Germany's rule, the SS enforced a regime of segregation against the Jews in Poland. German businessman Oskar Schindler (played by Liam Neeson) arrived in Kraków, which was under German control, and opened an enamelware factory to produce military supplies. Utilizing his exceptional social skills and considerable wealth, Schindler established good relationships with the German army, and his factory employed Jews, making a fortune from the war. In 1943, the Jews of Kraków faced a horrific massacre, and Schindler, horrified by what he witnessed, bribed officers to turn his factory into an annex labor camp for the concentration camp. During those days of madness, his factory became a refuge for Jews. In 1944, as Germany faced defeat, the extermination of the Jews intensified. Schindler provided a list of 1,200 names to the German officers, spending his fortune to buy the lives of these Jews. In those dark years, saving one person meant saving the entire world.
