Sergeant (played by Zheng Zeshi) and Ah Ying (played by Xu Guanying) disguise themselves as corpse collectors and, along with five accomplices dressed as zombies, smuggle opium through the route to Maxiangping. The local overlord, Lord Miao, kills musician Ah Chang to forcefully take a singer and coerces the Sergeant to carry the corpse out of the city. The seven of them leave the city and enter a primeval forest, where they accidentally drop the corpse in a sulfur swamp, leading them to mistakenly seek refuge at an inn. That night, one of the accomplices is killed, and villagers spread rumors of vengeful spirits. The Sergeant and the remaining five gather garlic and other items to exorcise the spirits in the wilderness. After several encounters in an ancient tomb, the Sergeant and his group are defeated. After escaping with Ah Ying, they return to Maxiangping to warn Lord Miao, only to learn that the vengeful spirit's motive is to seek revenge against him. Seeing the Daoist fail in the battle against the spirit, the Sergeant takes advantage of the situation to threaten Lord Miao, but is instead subdued and used as bait in the final showdown against the spirit…
