Rome, summer, a group of tourists weaving through its streets. This breathtaking ancient city lures them with a mysterious and cold elegance, willingly captivating them with its exquisitely despairing beauty, entrancing them. Yet in the eyes of Jep Gambardella (played by Toni Servillo), Rome is a city of loneliness. At 65, Jep is a successful journalist, charming and charismatic. A literary work he wrote in his youth brought him fame and fortune early on. He navigates through indulgent luxuries and the clinking of glasses in social gatherings, witnessing through his brutally indifferent eyes the emptiness and secrets behind this beautiful city. As the soprano's aria echoes once more, Jep, who moves between the lives of ordinary people and the upper class, begins to recollect those lost youthful memories, while Rome remains unchanged in its indifference and splendor. This film won the 2014 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and the 2014 Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film, and was nominated for the Palme d'Or at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival.
