Prison warden Paul (Tom Hanks) welcomes an extraordinary murderer this day — John Coffey (Michael Clarke Duncan). John was sentenced to death for killing two young girls and arrived at the famous Cold Mountain Prison, where there is a green area known as "the Green Mile," right before the execution chamber. John is not the brutal figure one might expect; on the contrary, he is remarkably gentle and intelligent. His arrival brings dramatic changes to the lives of the inmates: it infuses life into old inmate Trevor's little mouse, providing Trevor with his final comfort in life; miraculously saves Paul and Melinda from their suffering; and pulls Percy back from the clutches of death... Over these days, Paul has also come to see the true meaning of life through John. The day of John's execution finally arrives.
