The proletarian revolutionary and founder of the Communist Soviet Union, Lenin (played by Leonid Mozgovoy), cannot escape the natural laws of aging, illness, and death. He is in his twilight years, plagued by illness, and increasingly weary in body and mind, unable to cope with the political struggles both inside and outside the Party. He watches helplessly as new party elites replace his position. This once-glorious leader can only reside in a corner, waiting for death to approach, while the world slowly erases him from memory... This film won seven awards at the 2002 Nika Awards for Best Actor (Leonid Mozgovoy), Best Actress (Mariya Kuznetsova), Best Cinematography, Best Director, Best Film, Best Production, and Best Screenplay; and seven awards at the 2001 Russian Critics Association including Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Cinematography, Best Director, Best Film, Best Art Direction, and Best Screenplay.
