Xiaokang is a useless person, surviving by holding up an advertisement sign amidst the hustle and bustle of traffic, standing firm even in heavy rain and storm. He raises the sign, lights a cigarette, urinates, then raises the sign, lights a cigarette, urinates again, as the noise of vehicles rushes past him. Xiaokang's life contains only two children; they eat, brush their teeth, change clothes, and curl up to sleep together. They lack water and electricity, always sleeping on the same old mattress, cuddled up with a cabbage. The entire city seems to have become a wasteland where wild dogs howl and roam, and the rivers feel even farther away. One stormy night, Xiaokang decides to take his two children and set sail together.
