On a foggy snow-covered morning, a motorcycle carrying two helmet-wearing girls drove onto an overpass. Suddenly, the motorcycle accelerated sharply, crashing through the guardrail, sending both the bike and its riders plummeting off the bridge. This traffic accident provided new clues to the Emerald Mahjong case that had been shelved by the police for 10 years. A Mahjong tile was found on the deceased, Lan Yun, and it was Lan Yun who requested an investigation into its whereabouts. Criminal Investigation Team Leader Chen Ting received the report and immediately began an investigation. Chen Ting discovered a photo of Lan Yun with a young man in her bedroom. Upon inquiry, it was found that this young man, Pei Ning, was the owner of the motorcycle. Chen Ting subsequently approached Lan Yun's manager, who revealed that Lan Yun was the company's art designer and that the person involved in the accident with her was He Chen. Both women had fallen in love with Pei Ning, leading to Lan Yun striking Pei Ning twice in the face. Chen Ting proceeded to investigate Pei Ning, who recounted that about six months prior, he had accompanied the elegantly dressed Lan Yun to a flea market, where she unexpectedly flirted heavily with clothing dealer Tang Xiaoliang. Since then, Pei Ning had distanced himself from her and gotten closer to He Chen. Tang Xiaoliang sneaked into the morgue and stole the Mahjong tile from Lan Yun's body. Police surveillance showed that Tang Xiaoliang and pop singer Song Yuan were also seeking information about the Mahjong set. One late night, Song Yuan called a man, and the police quickly traced the phone number. Chen Ting felt hopeful about solving the case. However, Song Yuan was soon murdered. Chen Ting swiftly arrested the man, who turned out to be He Chen's father, He Weiming—a neighbor to Lan Yun's family and the director of the party office at Lan's father's workplace. He had stolen the family's set of Emerald Mahjong during the Cultural Revolution. Yet, the case was not resolved. Lan Yun’s death deeply tormented He Chen, who wheeled herself to the accident site and mourned her friend for a long time, feeling immense guilt that tormented her soul. She contemplated electrocution as a means of suicide, but was interrupted by Chen Ting, who shot at the power line. It turned out that He Chen was shocked to discover that the Mahjong set Lan Yun was investigating was actually at her own home. Understanding Lan Yun's character, she borrowed Pei Ning’s motorcycle, intending to end her life along with Lan Yun. Tang Xiaoliang was deeply in love with Lan Yun. With her death, he went mad. He traced the words “Eternal Immortality” in blood with his finger on Lan Yun's tombstone. Chen Ting also visited the cemetery. The case was solved, yet lives were lost—why must people fight and kill like this? He hoped this would be the last such case.
