The old prostitute Jin Ru (played by Sammi Cheng) encounters a thief (played by Eric Tsang) in a self-service bank during a robbery, but suddenly a power outage occurs, and they both get locked inside. Jin starts to tell the thief her story of growing up alongside Hong Kong. She began working as a "fish ball girl" at 16, earning several thousand a month. Later, as an adult, she officially became a nightclub hostess, but lacking good looks, she could only play the clown in the nightclub. To survive, Jin had to attribute the child to another customer, who then took her son to the United States.
