Hong Kong man Allen (played by Liu Qingyun) is obsessed with making money, which causes him to neglect the feelings of his girlfriend Anna. Over time, their relationship begins to show cracks. Anna leaves without a word for Shanghai, prompting Allen to follow her there. Disappointed, Allen, through the introduction of a young man named Sanbao in Shanghai, starts to pass the time by dabbling in stock trading and meets bus ticket seller Ali (played by Pan Hong). Ali lives in a ground-floor alley with her husband and daughter, and constant arguments among neighbors keep their living conditions from improving. With Allen's guidance, Ali finally experiences the thrill of making money fast, and her life gradually improves. The people around her begin to respect her, but during this process, she gradually becomes a slave to stocks and money, sinking deeper into the addiction from which she cannot escape...
