The young and beautiful West German girl Katharina Blum (played by Angela Winkler) has a failed marriage. She accidentally meets British soldier Ludwig Götten (played by Jürgen Prochnow) at a relative's party, and they fall in love at first sight, spending a romantic night together. However, the next morning, the military police break in, searching everywhere, and Götten has disappeared. It turns out that Götten is a wanted robber by the police, and Katharina is arrested as an accomplice. The police's manhunt causes a sensation, and Bild reporter Totgeiser (played by Dieter Laser) investigates and collects Katharina's private information. He presents the gathered materials to Sheriff Bietermann (played by Mario Adorf), who uses them as evidence to severely interrogate Katharina. The originally peaceful life of Katharina suddenly plunges into the abyss... This film is adapted from the novel of the same name by the famous German writer and Nobel laureate Heinrich Böll.
