This film is based on a true story. A rural child, Shi Wa (Zhao Qiang), lost his mother at an early age and relies on his father (Jiang Hualin) and sister (Yan Danchen) for support. When he turns seven, his father, burdened by life's hardships, can no longer afford to send both him and his sister to school. A bronze spoon forces his academically gifted sister to drop out, while their father urges Shi Wa to study hard. As Shi Wa enters junior high, his sister gets married early to save family expenses and squeezes out part of the dowry to support his education. Understanding the situation, Shi Wa studies diligently, winning third place in the National Chemistry Olympiad and gaining admission to a normal school in the provincial capital. However, at this time, his father unfortunately suffers an injury at work and becomes paralyzed. To take care of his father without hindering his studies, Shi Wa decides to carry his father to school.
