This is the first time in years that President Statton (played by Dennis Quaid) has opened a newspaper, only to be hit by a flood of negative news about himself. Deeply affected, Statton immediately falls into a state of melancholy, and his behavior becomes increasingly odd. As Statton's capable assistant, Sart (played by Willem Dafoe) feels very anxious. With the election approaching, the plummeting approval ratings are pushing the candidate he supports further away from the goal of re-election. In a desperate bid to turn things around, Sart reluctantly manages to get Statton a spot as a guest judge on the hottest reality show, "The American Dream." After a rigorous selection process, two contestants, Omer (played by Sam Golzari) and Sally (played by Mandy Moore), stand before Statton, one of whom turns out to be a dangerous terrorist. The decision of who will win lies in Statton's hands, and his choice will directly affect the safety of the nation.
