Ah Mei (played by Brigitte Lin) is a beautiful girl, but she was born with a foot disability. Her father (played by Tong Chun) was tricked by his cousin into buying a rundown supermarket, spending his life savings, and has since become mentally unstable. Ah Mei has to take care of her father while also helping to run the supermarket, shouldering the burdens of life. In a traffic accident, driver Leung Siu Cho (played by Chow Yun-fat) mistakenly thinks he has crippled Ah Mei, feels deeply guilty, and decides to help her manage the supermarket. At first, Ah Mei does not trust Leung Siu Cho, but later, as he teams up with friends to help save her supermarket, she is moved, and the two fall in love.
