This film is based on the true story of Australian pianist David Helfgott. Born into a Jewish family, David (played by Alex Rafalowicz) displayed extraordinary talent from a young age. His father pushed him rigorously to practice piano, even unreasonably forcing him to challenge the so-called "most difficult piece to perform in the world," the D minor Piano Concerto. David suffered in the shadow of his father, who, in an effort to prevent family disintegration, went to great lengths to keep his son from seeking education outside, ultimately leading to a father-son rift. As a young man, David (played by Noah Taylor) traveled to study at the Royal College of Music in England. During this time, "Rach 3" remained an unresolved obsession for him. After intense preparation, he finally stepped onto the stage to challenge the limits set by his father… The film won the Oscar for Best Actor in 1997 (Geoffrey Rush).
