Since starting her Catholic catechism classes, the devout girl Maria has distanced herself from popular culture, resisting the various temptations of the embodiment of Satan. As she grew up, her strict mother continued to control her daily life and social interactions with absolute authority. Devout Maria not only strives to meet expectations, but also secretly makes a dangerous decision to help her autistic brother speak. The film "A Girl's Prayer" presents a meticulously crafted structure that echoes the extreme behaviors of the characters. With fourteen titles inspired by the chapters of Jesus' passion, and fourteen long takes that create a ritualistic and rigorous framework, it inevitably calls to mind Roberto Rossellini's "The Flowers of St. Francis" from 1950. However, unlike that film, this one seemingly offers a cool profile of Maria's spiritual journey of sacrifice and devotion, but in reality, it employs a strongly critical and satirical tone to explore how extreme religious fanaticism becomes a variant of authoritarian oppression, displaying astonishing audacity.
