Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a fur trapper who, after being brutally mauled by a bear during a hunting expedition, is saved by his companion, boat captain Andrew Henry (Domhnall Gleeson). The captain hires two men, John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy) and Jim Bridger (Will Poulter), to take care of him. John Fitzgerald has no intention of caring for Glass; he only thinks about claiming Glass's belongings for himself, so he cruelly murders Glass's son and persuades Jim Bridger to abandon Glass in the wilderness to die. The two believe Glass will simply perish, but with his strong will, he survives in the wild for several months, eventually returning to safety and beginning his revenge plan. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Michael Punke.
