In a tranquil town in Japan during the 1950s, dyer Tomoko Aizawa (played by Mitsushima Hikari) lives day by day with her mentor, friend, and lover, writer Shingo Kosugi (played by Kobayashi Nenji). As the New Year approaches, Tomoko falls ill due to a cold. The kind-hearted but hesitant Shingo ultimately decides not to stay and wait for her, hurriedly returning home to spend New Year's Eve with his wife and daughter. A sense of melancholy lingers, and a phone call seems to alleviate Tomoko's loneliness. On the other end is Ryota Kinoshita (played by Ayano Go), the young man who once made Tomoko leave her husband and daughter to elope with him. The past isn't over, and old feelings continue. From then on, whenever Shingo returns home, Tomoko indulges in her memories with Ryota. It's a dangerous game; no one wants to lose, but everyone has something to lose. They may either share a mutual demise or part ways... This film is adapted from the autobiographical novel of the same name by the renowned Japanese Buddhist nun, Jakuchō Setouchi (original name: Harumi Setouchi), before she became a nun.
