During World War I, Army Lieutenant Roy (Robert Taylor) meets dancer Myra (Vivien Leigh) at Waterloo Bridge while on leave. They fall for each other, and their love quickly intensifies. Just as they decide to marry, Roy is called back to camp, forcing them to part. After missing a theater performance, Myra is dismissed and is left to rely on her friend. Soon, Myra receives the devastating news of Roy's death and is shattered. Losing her love makes Myra feel that everything has lost its meaning, and for survival, she and her friend are forced into prostitution. However, fate plays a cruel trick when Myra unexpectedly encounters Roy again. While she is excited that Roy is alive, Myra is tormented by her past.
