Online writer Zhong Hua (played by Yin Fang) is an outsider; he is an underground rock singer and a professional hacker. He helps music company boss Xu Tian (played by Guo Jinglin) with some illicit activities. By chance, he becomes involved with an unknown singer, Meng Meng (played by Huang Huan), who unfortunately is the boss's mistress... Just as Zhong Hua is feeling lost, he receives a package from his father Zhong Zhenqing (played by Zhao Youliang), whom he hasn’t heard from in years. Inside, he discovers a heartbreaking story from the Cultural Revolution era, centered on a literary girl named Shi Yanping (played by Ni Hongjie), who shares a unique past and wrote a song with her classmate Chen Dong (played by Huang Xuan) that changes her life, and it turns out she is deeply connected to Zhong Hua. As Zhong Hua learns about the stories of the previous generation, he gradually understands them, and he ultimately reconciles with his father and mother through a song, finding his own path.
