In 1940, a projection truck arrived at a village in the Castilian plateau, and the children immediately gathered around. The film being screened was "Frankenstein," with the young girl Ana (played by Ana Torrent) and her older sister Isabel (played by Isabel Tellería) seated. Outside the projection room, their father was obsessed with his new beehive, pulling out his pocket watch to end his work for the day. Their mother was writing a letter, even though the chance of it reaching its recipient was slim; she expressed her feelings of longing on the letter paper and mailed it at the train station. Ana could not forget Frankenstein for a long time, and Isabel conjured an imaginary place in the wilderness—a solitary brick house—as the creature's lair. Ana panicked and ran away, but began to return to the brick house from time to time to check on it. Isabel seemed to understand some secret; she pretended to be dead, jumped over the fire, and similar antics. Soon, an injured soldier hid in the brick house and was discovered by Ana; that night, the soldier died from a gunshot. Their father went to the village hall to retrieve the soldier's belongings, including a pocket watch. Ana ran out of the village alone, and at night she encountered the Frankenstein creature by the lake… The film won multiple awards, including the Golden Shell at the 1973 San Sebastián International Film Festival.
