Despite her father being a renowned infidelity investigator and having witnessed countless faithful relationships end in disappointment, Eliane (Audrey Hepburn) still holds endless hope and longing for love. She even believes that only those relationships that are knowingly immoral yet still faced with challenges can be considered true love. By chance, Eliane meets her father's investigation subject, Franken (Gary Cooper) — a charming playboy who is adept in the game of love. Eliane creates a false identity and begins to play the role of a mysterious woman in front of Franken, unexpectedly capturing the heart of this playboy with her innocence and sincerity. Franken enlists a private detective to track Eliane, not realizing that the detective is her father.
