The film is set against the backdrop of the crazed sweep by the Japanese army in 1942 through the Taihang Mountains, combining touching true stories from the Changzhi area of Shanxi province. It uses a documentary style to tell the story of a reconnaissance team led by Han Shaofeng during a breakout at Laoyeshan in Tunliu, Shanxi.
