In the 1930s, 20-year-old Zhang Naiying (played by Tang Wei) runs away from an arranged marriage to pursue her studies, only to be abandoned. After relying on her fiancé Wang Enjia (played by Yuan Wenkang), Zhang Naiying still falls victim to the fate of being abandoned. Fortunately, she meets the progressive youth Xiao Jun (played by Feng Shaofeng) who works at a newspaper, and they fall in love.
