Evan (played by Ashton Kutcher) had a terrible childhood, as he made some grave mistakes that filled his early years with painful memories. In fact, he only vaguely remembers a few horrifying scenes that have continually haunted his normal life. Following a psychologist's advice, he starts keeping a journal of his trivial life, but accidentally discovers that he can return to the past through this journal. At that moment, he clearly recalls all the mistakes he made in his childhood. He fantasizes about using his present consciousness to dive back into his childhood body to rectify the harm caused by his various misdeeds, especially hoping to reunite with Casey, his childhood crush. However, each attempt to change the past only leads to increasingly irreparable consequences in the real world. Everything is like a butterfly effect; pulling one thread affects the entire fabric.
