"Yellow Rose" tells the story of a 17-year-old Filipino-American girl, Rosario "Rose" Garcia, from a small town in Texas who has always dreamed of becoming a country music singer. However, her life takes a turn when her mother is arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Rose is forced to flee the scene with her friend Elliott, taking her guitar and a few belongings to Austin to stay with her aunt Gail. But Rose feels unwelcome at her aunt's home, especially due to her uncle Mark's attitude, which makes her feel out of place. As she settles into this harsh reality, Rose enlists Elliott's help to find her mother, who is being held in a detention center. Meanwhile, she befriends a local tavern owner named Jolene, who offers her a job with food and lodging. Rose, Jolene, and her friend Jose create a small home for themselves in the bar. There, Rose meets the famous country music star Dale Watson, who discovers Rose's musical talent. When Elliott locates Rose's mother, they find out she will be deported back to the Philippines in a few weeks. With Elliott's help, the mother and daughter finally reconnect, and Rose tells her mother about her new home at Jolene's. However, her mother feels uneasy about Rose's situation and wishes for her to return to Manila with her. Although Rose longs to be with her mother, she ultimately decides to stay in the U.S. to pursue her musical dreams.
